Hello Melotika! Great to speak with you today!
Tell us about your latest release!
'Digital Dreams' just came out on Friday Feb 25 and this is an entirely new phase in my music career. My sound has evolved to this New Era of Retro sound and I've never felt more sure of myself as an artist. The song was written back in 2020 and was supposed to be a B-side off my latest Retro Dance Pop EP Dancing Without You. After some thought, I felt like this song had its own eccentric vibe and was its own thing so I waited a bit longer to release it. The song sings about our obsessions with the online world making light out of a dark situation since the global pandemic and partaking in the new virtual world. What was the creative process for it?
With the producer of the track, Twocann from Arizona, we worked remotely. It was a very spontaneous song. Unlike other tracks I've written, this one lyrically was done within a day and recorded a few months later in Toronto at Phase One Studios. I was just really feeling it and the melody was just so much fun and really catchy. I imagined myself trapped in the metaverse and what it would be like if I was a virtual Pop Star singing to my fans. (Ha!) We re-visited the production a year later and made some instrumental changes. I literally got the chills after hearing the Mix done by Canadian producer Taabu, and realized that this is the kind of energy the world needs!! Who are some of your biggest musical influences? To name a few, Maynard James Keenan, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Britney Spears, Metric, Silversun Pickups, and music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's! Who would be a dream collaboration for you?
This question is always so hard to answer! I feel like a collab with Britney Spears would be totally epic! Do you have a piece of advice you carry with you that you like to pass on to other musicians?
Always be your #1 fan. No one will care about your dreams and goals as much as you do! Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Other than promoting 'Digital Dreams' and planning for the next release and song-writing, I am slowly building my home studio so I can start recording my new music from home. Now that Covid restrictions seem to be lifting here in Canada, I have a show that has been postponed in Toronto for this Summer at Monarch Tavern on June 3rd and I will be planning to perform abroad in some USA cities. More info TBA! Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!
