Hello Tarah Who? ! Thank you for speaking with me today!
Tell us about your latest release!
TGC: Hi! Thanks for having us! Well, we are really excited about our upcoming release. The song has received a lot of great feedback so far so we cannot wait to share it with the rest of the world! The music video was a lot of fun to shoot as well. We went a little out of our comfort zone and learned to dance a little bit... My friend of over ten years is a professional dancer and I had this idea of an army of women dancing. The director, Lena Baez, sprung on us kinda last minute that we were going to be part of the dance too! We did it for the experience, but it is official, I am not a great dancer... when I am sober.;)
What was the creative process for it?
CH : The creative process was actually different from what we used to do because of Covid. Tarah and I were sending each other videos and audio tracks back and forth, and the first time that we actually played the songs together was in the studio hahaha. It was a really cool experience !!!
TGC: Yeah it was really different for me. Outside of the fact that we never rehearsed the songs prior to the actual recording of the songs, I tried a different approach to writing them as well.
I was trying riffs here and there and did all of the music before having the whole song ready. We did a bunch of zoom meetings with our producer Jason Orme. Finally, we picked a weekend and recorded the whole album. It was really weird because we had to stay away from each other and wear masks the whole time... but we did it! :)
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
CH : I'm a big fan of Nightwish, a symphonic metal band from Finland, I love this genre !!! More generally I will say classic rock and metal.
TGC: I was a big Alanis fan when I was 15 and growing until I discovered bands like The Distillers, Hole, Garbage, RATM, Pantera, Tool, Motorhead, The Smashing Pumpkins , etc...
Who would be a dream collaboration for you?
CH : It would be with Tuomas Holopainen from Nightwish, he's a genius !!
TGC: For Tarah Who? I wasn't really into collaborations until recently. Turns out, we are working on something really cool at the moment (2022 here we come;) ) and I am finding it very fun, interesting, and exciting to work with other people.
I started as a drummer and bass player, and I prefer to collaborate when the music is not as personal as what I write for Tarah Who? .
Do you have a mantra or piece of advice you carry with you that you like to pass on to other musicians?
CH : Do what you love and be happy !!
TGC: I have a few haha! My biggest one is "everything happens for a reason" you may not know it yet, but it will show soon enough why things didn't happen the way they did or happened the way they did. Another one is " if it doesn't feel right, don't do it" don't push yourself in doing things you don't want to. You always KNOW what is right for you but for some reason, most people don't follow that instinct. If people want to tell you your music should be a way and not another, only follow this advice if it feels RIGHT for you. If it doesn't, you are not working with the right person, and that's ok. There are PLENTY of other musicians, producers etc... oh and... another big one.. your music will not sound better if you pay more..
Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?
CH : We are actually releasing an album in September called "Supposedly A Man" and a video for the single too, pretty excited about it !!
TGC: yes, September 17 th is the official release of the music video for our song called 'Supposedly, A Man', and on September 24th, we will drop the new album, also called 'Supposedly, A Man'.
