Hi Bennett! Thank you for chatting with me today!
It's my pleasure! Thanks for having me! You are about to release a new EP! Will you tell us about it?
Yes, I sure am! Thanks for asking! I'm dropping my new EP "Love Letters" on July 30th. A few years ago I went on a road trip traveling across the country and during my downtime, I'd write these love letters to this special lady of mine. When I got home from the trip I must've put them in a box and put them in my closet. I actually just found them earlier this year and I thought I could make them into songs. So from that, I've spent the last 3 months putting together a collection of Pop R&B music, alongside some really talented rappers. Joining me on this project are Quick and YRU VEXxD. I created all the music and lyrics. I also mixed and mastered each of the tracks myself as well. The whole creative process is very important to me and I take pride in my work. It is the first of two parts correct?
Yes, I have turned it into a 2 part EP collection. After all the work I was putting in, I had 4 out of the 6-7 tracks done and they were solid. So I thought, let's not rush this and split it into 2 parts. I think the people listening will enjoy it a lot more that way too. Subpar work is where I fall flat and I'm too much of a perfectionist to release anything that I feel is less than perfect. So that's really the reason for the two parts. That is amazing! Do you have an idea when the second one will be released?
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that! I'm aiming to release the 2nd part in September/October. That way it gives Part 1 some time to circulate and it'll give the listeners some time to enjoy it before Part 2 new music comes their way. Any plans for music videos for any of these songs? As of right now, I don't have anything planned, but I can definitely see myself doing a music video in the near future for one of these songs. Before I do a music video, and because I release music so frequently, I try to see what song my audience is liking the most. So with this EP, I want to see what everyone's favorite song is going to be and from there I'll make the decision. I do have an idea of what I'd like to do though. I have this uptempo, dark, but sexy love called "Baby Is My Passion" and I can see a really cool dance scene with some dancers. make it a lot of fun. So we will see in the next few weeks how people resonate with the new music and take it from there. Do you have a favorite performance you have done? What made it stand out?
My favorite would be when I performed at SOB's a few years ago and this performance was the first time I had dancers, which is something I've always wanted to have for a show, especially in my hometown of New York City. It was a show where I performed in front of various A&R's from Republic Records, DefJam, Atlantic Records, Sony, and many more people who could help further my career so it was a rather important performance. But I put together a hell of a set and it kicked ass, so a job well done to everyone involved. Do you have a dream stage to perform on?
Absolutely! I grew up in NYC and some of my fondest memories are inside Madison Square Garden. I've seen everything from Mariah Carey to the Knicks playing there. Going there with my family to see WNBA games is a memory I hold close to my heart. So Madison Square Garden would be my dream stage to perform on without a doubt. Do you have any live performances coming up?
I don't have any in-person performances coming up. I'm still working on getting all that worked out. But I do have a live stream performance on Sessions Live coming up on my EP release day, July 30th at 8 pm. Go to www.sessionslive.com/bennett504 and you can watch it there. Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!
