Where does the soul of your music come from? I think music flows through me like I am a conduit from something bigger. I like the term "the personal is universal" and "in general is the enemy of good art" when it comes to songwriting, I try to create something authentic, and then polish that little nugget of an idea until it's worth hearing over and over. It's a great feeling one day I have written a song or had an inspiring collaboration. Why were you inspired to make your latest release Broke Stoned and 23?

I had found myself between a rock and hard place, reminiscing for a time when I had less responsibility. "The best of times, the worst of times".

How would you describe the release in one word?

Buzzy.

How much love did you put into making the new single?

Everything I had. I packed all my instruments and pedals and amps into my car and drove through a blizzard in Iowa (where there was a "tow ban" so if I had run off the road no tow trucks would even pull me out) up to Minneapolis to make music with inspirations but strangers, new friends. It was a magical joy ride we didn't know where it would take us.

How much time do you have to make sure you spend on new music?

That's an interesting question. I feel like the valve of creativity is always there for me and open. Sometimes all I need is a feeling and a little time with an instrument and a new song will show up. Putting concentrated effort into a live performance or music video or even an interview ;) is just about balancing all the fun with all the "work" in life. That's how you build a career.

Is there a fine line of revealing too much of yourself in your music?

Probably but I believe in being authentic in a way that connects with listeners. It's okay if it's too much for some, it's gonna slap for the right set of ears.

How do you make sure to always serve your fans the best of you?

I play every show like it's my last. I refine and edit and tweak a song until it feels like magic. Magic you can hit repeat on.
