A millennial musician, Lainey Dionne's 12 song album “Self Titled” is a roller coaster ride of raw, honest emotions that come with toxic and healthy relationships.

Where does the soul of your music come from?

Love. I love hard and I hurt hard then I write about both!

Self Titled is a musical journey! Where did the heart of this come from?

Self Titled is about all the relationships I've been in and how they shaped me into who I am today. I grew as a person out of heartbreak and I will never settle for anything less than what I deserve again- these songs are a great reminder for where I was in my self worth to where I am now.

How would you describe the new album to someone who is new to your music?

Well my friend described my new sound as ""it's like my favorites, Billie Eilish, Halsey, k.flay, and Lorde, had an orgy lovechild” which I can totally get behind. Some tracks on my album are punk-rock-screw-you-ex and some of them are lovey dovey good vibes only pop music. There's a little "something something" for everyone on this album who has been through the ringer with their love life.

How much love do you put into putting each record together?

I am 100% a part of every process in making this album from the front cover design, to the production choices, to delivery and everything else. The songs are a game of truth or dare where I do the most daring things for love and have to tell the truth about it. I literally cried while recording some of the songs and sneaked my ex's name into some of the songs. So much of me is inside this record.

This album is really vulnerable but empowering. How did you find that balance?

Thus is the circle of life. You have to get vulnerable, raw, and honest in order to strip that down to be empowered by what you've been through. In Skin I talk about almost giving up on everything because of my depression and in Hey London I discover my worth and say "boy byeeee". Each song is a different stage of my self discovery through dating.

Is there a fine line of revealing too much of yourself in your music?

I mean, I kept the takes where I was crying in Senti(mental)- I think there's no line when it comes to art.

Is there music that didn't make the cut with on Self Titled?

No, so I did six of them in Nashville under a talent development deal and I knew I wanted those to be on the album right away. They were the foundation songs: Hey London, Skin, I Love You To Death, Last Flight, Old Enough, and Sleeping Dogs Lie. I wrote this song called Cumbria in 2017 that was meant to be a folk song but I heard pop potential so I knew I wanted that to be on the album even though it was a much older song. Kick It In The Shadows and Cool Story, Bro were fun writing sessions that I knew I wanted on the album. Wake Up Call, Damned, and Senti(mental) were the last to be written on the album since they were about my most recent relationship so I banged those out pretty quick and then the album was finished! It kind of just all came together and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
